Project goals

Clean water, sufficient food, prospects on their farm: the basic needs of the smallholder families are met so that they can stay in their homes and do not have to migrate to the slums of the cities.

  • Region: Hambela Wamena is a district in the Oromia region

Measures

  • Drinking water: Construction of spring taps, repair of wells.
  • Food security: Promotion of agricultural production, for example through improved seeds.
  • Natural resources: Training helps to stop erosion.
  • The distribution of tree seedlings helps the water balance and microclimate.
  • Income: Small farmers get microcredits and agricultural inputs to produce market products.
  • Cooperatives: Formation and strengthening of savings groups and cooperatives.
  • These promote exchange between smallholders and provide access to agricultural materials and markets.
  • Health: Education and access to family planning ensure that women only have as many children as they want and can feed.
