In the city of Debre Berhan, we support 1,200 children from the poorest families. They receive school supplies, food, and help with their homework. We also support the parents' career opportunities. Here we show Hirut's success story.

Etagegnhu Wulderufael and her husband used to work as day laborers for a pittance: "The money was not enough. We often went to sleep without eating," says the mother of three boys.

Due to extreme poverty, child labor is still an everyday occurrence for many children in Ethiopia: four out of ten children have to work. Many are therefore unable to go to school.

Tseganesh Mamo, 21: "My family is very poor. My mother washed the neighbors' clothes until she got sick. After training, I want to work as a cook in a hotel for a few years, and my dream is to open my own café after that."

Selomie Alemayehu, 22: Later I want to open my own business - I can do it, because we also learn how to manage as efficiently as possible."

Adam Yitay, 22: I see this training here as a stepping stone. You can start small. Like a seed that grows into a big tree. I am learning here how to make the many spice mixtures for Ethiopian cuisine. I see a niche for me to open a business."
