The idea for the foundation Menschen für Menschen was born 40 years ago: On May 16th, 1981, the actor Karlheinz Böhm challenged viewers on the German TV show «Wetten, dass ...?» («Let’s bet…») to defeat famine in Africa. This was the beginning for the founding of Menschen für Menschen. Karlheinz Böhm no longer wanted to sit idly by and watch the suffering. «Don't talk, just act!», he said. A lot has happened since then - we recall the beginnings and successes.
