People's basic needs such as nutrition and health are met so that they do not have to flee to the slums of the cities.

Project information

  • Target group: farmers, families, rural residents
  • Region: Gelana and Abaya, Oromia
  • Partner: Ethio Wetlands and Natural Resources Association (EWNRA)
  • Duration: Three-year project phases

Measures

  • Drinking water: construction of spring catchments, repair of wells
  • Food security: promoting agricultural production, for example through improved seeds
  • Natural resources: Tree planting stops erosion and helps the microclimate
  • Income: Small farmers receive microcredit and agricultural inputs to produce market products.
  • Cooperatives: Strengthening and merging cooperatives to create market access and increase the added value of agricultural products
  • Infrastructure: Provision of agricultural infrastructure, such as cooperative houses and coffee warehouses
