Out of need, large areas of forest were cleared in the past in Fogera in north-western Ethiopia. Today's effects are dramatic for the poor farming families and for the local climate. That is why the Menschen für Menschen Foundation launched a reforestation project in 2020: Tree seedlings are grown in plant nurseries and given to farmers. Muchit Worke has received 3000 seedlings and is caring for the trees so that they grow well and sustainability is guaranteed. "When we eventually harvest them, we will replace them with new trees," she says in the interview. Like Muchit Worke, the smallholders are now planting new trees all over the rural district - a total of 1,000,000 specimens for the benefit of the people and the climate!
